The Kayu Aga conceptual sketches provide insight into the design process and clarify the purpose of the walls. The site is divided into four layers from west to east, expressed as slightly radiuses line, the first layer being a physical barrier to the noise from the road that runs along the western boundary.
The architectural language is totally modern and the design process is explained in terms of rational responses to site and climate, but ultimately the house is a visually delightful place with a myriad different moods and emotions. The …

Modern Office Buiding
Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) recently design a modern office building for China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). This building situated at a major crossroads along the Second Ring Road in Beijing’s eastern Dongcheng district, the CNOOC headquarters building acts as an urban counter-point to the massive Ministry of Foreign Affairs Building situated on the opposing corner.
The building’s form evokes the images of offshore oil production. The prow-like shape recalling an oil tanker’s bow, and the tower mass elevated above the ground on piloti suggesting an offshore oil …

The Orange Cube Building project is designed by Jakob + MacFarlane Architects as a simple orthogonal (cube) into which a giant hole is carved, responding to necessities of light, air movement and views. This hole creates a void, piercing the building horizontally from the river side inwards and upwards through the roof terrace.
The cube, next to the existing hall highlights its autonomy. It is designed on a regular framework made of concrete pillars on 5 levels. A light façade, with seemingly random openings is completed by another façade, pierced with …

The beams were of different lengths and cross sectional dimensions, and had astonishing proportions – some as long as 20 meters, some as deep as 90 cm. It was agreed that …

Situated in San Fransisco California, SB Architects created contemporary home with warm interior space. This home more contemporary approach to a housing solution but manages to translate the needs of a family into a comprehensive layout. I’m a big fan of the kitchen island and the ceiling matching the floors. You can see accent colors here and there on a pretty neutral color palette.
Description from SB Architects;
“The design concept was driven by the micro-features of the site and the desire to create a contemporary design expression that was rooted in …

Alterstudio presents contemporary East Windsor Residence in Austin, Texas. Extraordinary views in the heart of the city and a small buildable footprint limited by restrictive easements prompted a thin, three-story home with the main living spaces and master suite on the top floor – essentially a one-bedroom loft with 270° views. A 16’ ipe screen envelopes the body of the house, and rests delicately atop a base of long courses of black Leuders limestone. Beyond, an etched glass wall captures the projected shadows of a stand of giant …
